#2 Target Market

All marketing campaigns need an understanding of the target customer as a base.  There is a misconception that this does not apply on the Internet, "simply put up a site to sell something and you will become a dot.com millionaire", is just not true.

You must know who your customers are, what interest them, what words they use to search for the service or product you offer, what sort of sites they visit and numerous other things.

Some key considerations:

  1. Keywords- What key words best describe your site or better yet describe the sort of surfer you wish to attract.   What are the words being used to search for products and services like yours.   BC Ventures uses keyword density analysis software for our clients to develop the words keywords required to attract the right audience.
  2. Lateral Interest- Create a profile of your target audience.  What sort of other sites d they typically surf.   What is their age, sex, race?   Some of these questions are easy to answer, depending on your target.  Other are more difficult.   There are simple ways to find this out and use it to direct the rest of your marketing effort.
